Today has been the saddest day for me for a long time. My best friend, Tonka, the little Jack Russell-Foxy cross who has been my best friend for 17 years has died today. I am distraught, my little man has gone and I grieve.
He died in my arms. I felt his life and his pain leave me.
We buried him with his favourite things! His Kong, tennis ball, lead and collar, a bottle top (Coopers Pale Ale) and two schmakos, one from me and the other from Mel. (Razz actually ate the one we layed out the cheeky bugger :))
He rests in peace in our backyard after a short battle. The little trooper never complained and I am glad to have known him. He taught me many things, mostly he taught me to be a better me and without him I would be a lesser person, and for that I am thankful.
He deserves to be remembered. I know it is only a dog, but my little man was just that, my little man. I miss your guts already Tonks :(
Tonka came from Booleroo Centre in the Flinders Ranges, 1994.
He was so cute and fit into my beanie on the way home. From the outset he followed me; we bonded instantly :) When he got home, he barged onto the turf of Quinby, the resident kitteh!
But even Quinby couldn't resist the charms of such a cute pooch like baby Tonka:
And the kitteh and the puppy formed a bond. I must say that Tonka was always polite to cats ever after (Note: The kitteh was always the boss)
Living up to his DNA, his first mouse (Boom!, Headshot.):
We lived together in Adelaide for about seven years and then Hello! Victoria.
Busy with work (kitteh left behind w family), we needed to find a friend for Tonka, and Razz (Razzma) came on the scene:
"Hey Fifi, Its a me, Tonka"..., first sniff and pow! I <3 you.
They became inseperable. Tonka at the age of seven got a girl, a captive one at that!
Tonka was happy! [FLASHBACK]
[THanks for that old chap. Do you think this cape too much? I have never been with girl so am unsure of proper attire...]
After a lot of sniffing and a couple of turns of the big wheel.
Razza went from this:
To this:
And these four pups popped out as I was studyng for my finals:
And together they would go on to have one more litter. The first litter had four pups, and the second litter had two. All the pups went to great homes. My brother has one of them; I look forward to seeing Maxi soon.
Here are the two pups from the second litter. Maxi is the fawny one on the left:
Tonka loved chasing his ball, to exhaustion, you always had to tell hime when to stop:
It was his FOCUS for many years, an expectation, and it was thrust upon all visitors:
"THROW ME THE BALL"
We shared a fondness for beer:
"NUNCHACKA SOCK"
"His towel ...
...and a nunchuka"
"GOLDEN YEARS"
...
I see you running in the fields of your dreams forever Little Man
